The great thing about still life photography – and perhaps its biggest challenge - is that you have complete control over all elements in the image. Take a look at the old master painters for inspiration.

You can create still life images out of pretty mundane objects. These forks were photographed on a black felt background with off-camera flash. Try bouncing the flash or directly lighting the subject. Think about composition. In this instance, I thought a diagonal arrangement would add dynamism.
